"Wonder and surprise has been expressed ex-pressed by many friends and customers j recently as to how I get around town with my machine In the heavy snows without the use of chains." said W. S. Theobold. manager of the United States Tire company yesterday. "To me, .however, .how-ever, the question is simple and the reason rea-son can be given in a few words. Here it is: "AJy car is equipped with nobby tread tires." "To many," Mr. Theobold continued, "these words would probably not mean much, providing they have not investigated investi-gated thoroughly the scientific manner in which the tread Is constructed. "It would appear at first sight of the tread that the knnhs which cover the tire are simply stuck on and point in all directions. di-rections. But if examined by an engineer engi-neer it would ho found that the;- are built so as to utilize every ounce of traction trac-tion power. "Kxhanst ive tests were made with this tread before It was put before the public." Mr. Theobold said. "Engineers figured lite angles at which the knobs should be placed to the most minute fraction uf an inch. The result is that the knobs take hold with a grip that never allows the wheels to spin. "It would be unnecessary for me to Explain Ex-plain the results and expense of tires that fail to take hold and spin. Every automobile auto-mobile owner knows t he expense and wear that is sure to result." |
