Hieken, connected with th car service department of t bo American Ameri-can Railway association, and James F. Whiteley of the federal trade commission commis-sion at Washington, who arrived in tho city Friday, spent a busy day yetcr-dav yetcr-dav in connection with the duties which brought t hem here. They spent a portion of the dav with C. P. Castle, chairman of tho city fuel 'advisory com m it tee, and Mr. Whit eley discussed conditions with some of the coal dealers. Mr. Hickens was a caller at tho of rices of the district ear service ser-vice bureau and talked wit h Pi rector J. S. Spelman recording ear conditions. Mr. Hickens and Mr. Whiteley expect to spend about ten days in the state. C. P. Castle, under whose direction a coal survey of the city has been made, said last ni;ht that a general report would be made at a luncheon at the Commercial club at 12:30 tomorrow afternoon, af-ternoon, but that the tabulated report could not be submitted until later, owing- to the large amount of work involved. in-volved. At this luncheon the stake presidents and the bishops of the various va-rious wards in tho ciry will be guests of honor as an appreciation for the. splendid services which they rendered in the making- of the survey. Acting upon the suggestion of the stake presidents, presi-dents, the bishops named the men who made the survey, and everv home in the city has been visited aod checked. Whilo the advisory committee is not ready to make its report, it is understood under-stood that the coal situation in the city was found in better condition than ha'd been expected. |
