VThilo nothing noth-ing of a Ffii national nr.ture was developed devel-oped during th week in the Granite Hill district, fourteen miles north of Reno, yet the showings in the different workings work-ings of the Xixon Nevada mino at leapt held their own, with improved indications indica-tions in one or two of the working fai'e?. The drift on Xo. "2 vein, which for some time hn? heen iu verv hicli grade or and where rock goin 7j per cent copper was recently encountered, i still showing the rich ore, tho only change of note being that it carries more than the nsnal amount of gold. A great many specimens have been picked out which 5 how free gold visible to the naked eye. NThpre ij an improvement in the face of the north drift on the No. 1 vein and a little ore is ph owing in the face. This drift opened up a shoot of rich ore 200 feet in length, alter passing through which there were but small values tnr a, time. The indications now ;ire that another ore shoot is about to be entered en-tered which it is believed will prove as good as the first. The cross cut which is beinc extended to cut the big No. 4 vein at a depth of 500 feet on its dip is now out h)'J feet and there is quite a little iron showing in the face. This and other indications warrant the belief that the objective point will soon be reached. The chief engineer for the Western Pacific railroad was up from San Francisco Fran-cisco last week and practically decided on the location for the Nixou Nevada station on their line. It will be about 500 feet from the south end lines of the company's property and will be a great convenience as well as making for economy. Application has been made for a post-office post-office at the Nixon Nevada, there being be-ing more than the necessary population. Telegraph and express facilities have also been promised for the near future, so that before long the miners will not be subject to the isolation which prevails pre-vails at so many mines. Another feature which adds to the ! comfort and well being of the miners, j and which turned a liability into an j asset, was the utilization of the water from the mine in the irrigation of a 1 model farm, which furnishes a variety j of fresh vegetables for the table. When ! the water was first struck in the mine l it was looked upon as a calamity; now j the product of the twenty acres under j cultivation is paying the fuel bill for i the entire property. |
