Show CALLAGHAN NAMED PRESIDENT'S GUARD Head of Federal Secret Service Here Called to Important Service at i National Capital. As a reward for efficiency in every branch of his work, Thomas J. Callaghan, head of the secret service system of the United States in the Intermountaln section, sec-tion, with headquarters In Salt Lake, has received recognition from his superior officers of-ficers in "Washington to the extent tha t after January 1. 1917. Mr. Callaghan will be detailed in Washington as the special bodyguard of President Wilson. This position po-sition was held by Mr. Callaehan prior to his appointment to take charge of this territory two years ago. Mr. Callaghan, during the time spent in this section, has made many friends and it was expressed on all sides yesterday yes-terday that his serwices will be missed here. His work in the interests of the government has evidently convinced his superiors that this territory does not pre. sent the opportunities for a man of bjs caliber, hence he will be sent to Washington, Wash-ington, where iho responsibilities of a secret service man, especiailv the president's presi-dent's bodyguard, are manifold. Mr. Callaghan will take up his'new duties du-ties about the first of the year, and will remain in Salt Lake ahout two weeks. H will be succeeded by W. IT. Davenport Daven-port of New York, who will arrive here shortly to become acquainted with the territory before he assumes charge. |
