Bowerman. who for nine years past has been pastor of ' Immanuel" Baptist church of this city, left, with his family, last night for San Jose. Cal., where they expect to spend some time while Mr. Bowerman rests and recuperates after his long service nere. 1 )r. Bowerman preached his farewell sermon to his congregation last night, and after tho services there was an informal in-formal farewell gathering in t he church, at which mcmbern of the church took occasion to bid the pastor and his fam-ilv fam-ilv good -by and wish them the season's cheer and success and happiness in the new field into which they are-going. The jias tor and his family left on the midnight train for California. Mr. Bowerman Bow-erman tendered hlf. resi gnat ion to the church board recently and, with regret, the hoard and the church accepted it, hecausp the pastor Insisted that he be released that he might take a rest. |
