Show STATE OFFICIALS CLEJBUP WORK The state capitol promises to be a hive of industry this week in preparation for the change of administration that will take place next Monday at noon. All of the departments have been working work-ing over time for two or three weeks past in an effort to wind up pending business before the end of the year so that the offices of-fices may be turned over to the incoming ofjicials with clean slates. Most of the department heads report that their affairs are in shape, practically, and there remains only the work of checking check-ing up the business of this week. In some, however, the work is piled up so that It will have to go over into the next i administration. I Tiie supreme court is one of the busiest departments of government just now. An effort is being made to clear the calendar of cases that have been argued and submitted sub-mitted heretofore. In view of the fact that a new member of the court will take office, all cases that have .been argued and submitted must either be decided be-i be-i fore January 1 or else they will have to go j over into the next administration and will have to be re-argued and re-submitted so that the new justice will be familiar with them and may properly pass "judgment upon the issues involved. Whether or not the court will be able to clear its calendar Is doubtful, it is learned from the justices. A large number of decisions de-cisions are being worked upon now, and it is expected that a small flood of opinions will come down during tiie week. But the judges express a doubt as to being able to clear up all the. cases pending. |
