General Murguia relieved General Francisco Fran-cisco Gonzah-s, who has been the mill- I tar y commander here for the past eight I months. General Mnrauia arrived in Juarez from Chihuahua City yesterday with 70a troops. TiK-ny troops relieved the command of General Gonzales here, in Guadalupe, ura Gosa, San Ignacio and the other 1: order towns near here. General Gonzales Gon-zales announced his Intention tonight of going to Chihuahua City tomorrow afternoon after-noon on a special train. lie will be accompanied ac-companied by his entire command of SOU troops here. He announced his intention of taking the tield against Villa. It is the intent ion of he new commander com-mander here to replr.ee all of General Gonzales's troop- with those, of his own command. A troop train left here today to-day for Casas Grandes, where the troops sent on this train will relieve Colonel Diaz's command and that of Colonel Cor-tinas, Cor-tinas, both of General Gonzales's brigade. There was a rumor here tonight that General Gonzales would go to El Paso with his family and quit the de facto armv. This was denied at his residence tonight, where it was stated that the rumor ru-mor probably started when General Gonzales Gon-zales arranged to send his family and automobile to El Paso before leaving for the front. . Fear of a clash between the forces of General Gonzales and those of General Murguia were expressed here tonight by civilian residents of the town. A majority major-ity of both commands are in the town and there were many apparently Intoxicated Intoxi-cated soldiers and officers on the streets tonight during the Christmas eve band concert. The feeling between the two commands is said to be unfriendly. The soldiers of General Murguia's command com-mand are better equipped than are those of General Gonzales, as the former have new issues of clothing, hats, shoes and rifles, which were given to them In Chi-hujihua Chi-hujihua City before entraining for Juarez. There were many hoys to be seen among these de facto forces and one young woman was seen riding in a cavalry cav-alry command on the main street dressed in a regulation uniform. Three Americans and a Mexican automobile auto-mobile driver were arrested today following fol-lowing two accidents on the principal streets here. M. O'Brien, D. O. Tally and C. F. Patterson, car men on a street car running to Juarez, were taken frevi their car and placed under arrest late todav when an aged Mexican was struck bv their street car. The man was not seriously injured. They were later released re-leased upon the request of United States government agents. Julio Perez, the automobile driver, was arrested after a Mexican was run down and killed by the automobile here. He is being held' pending an investigation of the accident. Perez claims to be an American citizen. |
