Show CDAL TO GO HIGHER IN CHIMMET By International News Sen' Ice. CHICAGO, Dec. 24. In the face of tremendous efforts on the part of railroads, rail-roads, coal dealers ami state officials to relieve the fuel famine which now grips the city, the price of coal is destined des-tined to soar still higher during the coming week. This discouraging prediction pre-diction was made today by George H. Gushing, editor of the 'Black Diamond, and conceded to be one of the best informed in-formed men in the country on the coal situation. Mr. Gushing voiced the opinion that all grades of coal will soil for 50 cents a ton more than the highest high-est prices of last week. ' "These new prices are record-breakers, ' ' said Mr. Gushing. "There never was a time when Illinois Illi-nois coal sold for $6. On a ton before, and I expect these figures will be maintained main-tained for the next ten days, if not throughout the winter. " Labor shortage in the mines, made more acute by the holiday celebrations and tho activities of speculators who have been holding fuel within the switching district of Chicago, is blamed for the latest increase. |
