TO JOIN THE ORDER OF GOOD FELLOWS. ; Order of Good Fellows, Salt Lake City: l : I live at No , t .... .street. !; I wish to take care cf , children. I prefer them j; ;: in the part of the city. Please send me j : a list of names. I enclose stamped and addressed envelope. j j; (Signed) j G1 GOD FELLOWS of Salt Lake, J come to you this morning with a final appeal for the unfortunate ''kiddies" of your , beautiful citv. From experience gained in association with you for four consecutive years I am sure that the appeal will not be in vain. Although Chribtnias is nearly two days away, what we do to make the needy youngsters happy on Christmas morning should be done today. Today is the last shopping day and there is a great deal of work yet to be done. Nearly 150 needy families have been cared for during the past three weeks through your generous responses. But there are more, some twenty families, fami-lies, and the' must be cared for today, or at least should be, if they are to enjoy the spirit of Christmas in the fullest as you and I. But they cannot do that; they can know no more than the joy of gratitude, of thankfulness, while you ami I may enjoy in addition the pleasure of the giver. Good Day to Do Good. Sunday is a good day to do good, but it is not a proper day for Christmas shopping. Because of that. even though your donations may be distributed dis-tributed tomorrow, thev must be arranged ar-ranged for today. It aso is desirable that, if at all possible, the evidence of your good will should be delivered to the unfortunate today. The enjoyment enjoy-ment will come just twenty -four hours earlier. I would much prefer that you care for the poor families in person and I know that many of you will. Still 1 know that in some instances such a course "will be practically impossible. It will be a pleasure for me to care j for those eases. Call at my office, or i call by telephone, or bring in your do-! do-! nations, whatever they may he, but do it todav. Letters will arrive too late. In your homes tomorrow and Monday Mon-day will be the Christmas tree, ood cheer and, above all, the spirit of Good Fellowship. It is a part of your mission mis-sion in life to carry good cheer and Good Fellowship into the homes of the less fortunate. Because Christmas represents rep-resents what it does the spirit of Good Fellowship always is nrevaJent, always more noticeable' at C hristmas-time. Make Final Appeal. Ia making this last appeal, 1 beg of you to do your utmost to extend the Christmas spirit to all tho people of this great city. But do not stop there; let the spirit of Good Fellowship be with you always. 1 might repeat here the many piteous appeals from those who are yet to be cared for in Salt Lake. They reflect the most poignant sorrow in tlie hearts of the unfortunate writers, aud each j tells just a little different story of this life's sadness. But 3011 know from I those I have given you" during the past 'three weeks the general nature- of the pleas. However, there is one which is just a little different. H comes from a workman who is hindered from plying his vocation because of an accident . He does not ask for charity; all he wants is an opportunity to work at something he can do. He is practically homeless and friendless a DitTendorfer and all he asks of this world is a chance to work. Can't you help him? Pleasure Is Great. The. Order of Good Fellows provides a great deal of work, but the pleasure of doing and the enjoyment of the pleasure brought to others less fortunate fortu-nate is the only remuneration. It ie a laudable object, but it does not go far toward providing the necessities of life in times of high prices. Although the smiles and the happiness happi-ness of those you have befriended has amply repaid you for your work in the interests of Good Fellowship, I know it would not be proper for me to close this letter without a word of appreciation appre-ciation of your noble efforts. It lias been my great pleasure to be associated with you in this humanitarian work for five consecutive years aud in none has there been a more generous response, a more whole-hearted response, than in the one just closing. Your own hearts will tell you far more plainly than my pen what I would say. MMizpah." A GOOD FELLOW. |
