Show PIONEER CUSTOMS PREVAIL AT BALL Stray Elks Cash Good and Bad Checks j and Issue Manufactured Money j at Social Aifair. Special to The Tribune. ELY". Nev., Dec. 22 The chanty ball given by the stray Elks here Wednesday night was one of the greatest great-est successes ever attempted in this district. dis-trict. Bijo hall was decorated in a manner seldom seen before and the adopted colors col-ors of the order, which veiled the electric elec-tric lights, added luster to the handsome hand-some costumes of the societv women who graced the occasion with their presence and aided sweet charity. In the center of the hall was a large Christmas tree, which brought home to all the true spirit of the season. One of the great attractions was in the northwest corner of the hall, where V. S. (Ole) Elliott opened up everything every-thing iu full blast. Commencing with the manufacture of his own money for the occasion, made payable, on tbe Elks' National Bunk, with a three-ball sign , conspicuously displayed, he loaned the green paper on Fords, pistols and razors j as ranidlv as they were presented. He cashed all good checks and some bad ones, and the money which he passed over the counter was quickly disposed of at the roulette wheel, which all patrons pa-trons wwre obliged to pass immediately after leaving the window. Ladies fair entered into the spirit of '49 and spent the money freely as the elusive ball rolled round. The dealer had numerous numer-ous assistants keeping the check rack cleared up and the proceeds of the department de-partment will add many a smile to the faces of tots on Christmas morn. |
