Show BOSTON. Dec. 22. Telephone nnd telegraphic tele-graphic service between New England and Canadian points east of Montreal was badly crippled tonight. Wet snow and sleet storms in northern New Kngland. followed by a heavy gale and cold weather, brought down miles of wires. Frequent Interruptions resulted in the service between this city and points north of Rutland, Vt. The Western Union Telegraph company reported that it was necessary to relay through Chicago many messages for Canadian points. Shipping in the harbor was virtually suspended tonight on account of the gale. The wind was severe along the southern south-ern New England coast, reaching a velocity ve-locity of eighty-five miles an hour in Narragansett bay. |
