Show FLOOD CONTROL BILL NOW ON CALENDAR Senate Committee Favorably Reports j on Measure Passed by the j House. , WASHINGTON". Dec. 22. The Hum-prey Hum-prey flood control bill, appropriating ; $45000,000 for control of the lower Mississippi river valley water and $5,6O0f0lJU for the Secramento river was favorably reported today by the senate sen-ate commerce committee and placed upon the senate calendar. Jt has passed the house. The committee rejected Senator Sen-ator Newlands 's compromise bill. Senator Kcnyon gave notice that a minority report would be Hied and Senator Sen-ator Newlands declared later that a group of senators committed ' ' against piecemeal legislation" would fight the j measure. Before the committee acted Secretary Baker made a statement indorsing the Newlands compromise, which would retain re-tain the Mississippi and Sacramento' river appropriations, but inaugurate a comprehensive water control plan for the entire country. He did not object to the appropriations for the Mississippi and Sacramento rivers, however, as provided pro-vided iu tne Humphrey bill. |
