U. proved their right to the title of class basketball bas-ketball champions by defeating every team in the school in the recent class series without losing a single game, j Qualifying games were played among; the teams representing the five classes in the school, and a final game between the two highest teams was played to decide the championship. The fourth year squad walked off with the honors. Much of the credit for the successful showing goes to Leo Hobinson, the class athletic manager. Robinson played forward for-ward on the school team last year, and through the experience gaineel on the ! first squad was able to produce a winning win-ning team. With George Wood, Sid Neilson, Wallace Freeze and Conrad Haymond from last year 's team aa a nucleus, and with the addition of Eldon Mecham, a lad who hails from Idaho and is a strong candidate for the first team, a jiennant-copping aggregation was readily formed. George Wood was elected to captain the team. The class of 1917 at tho L. D. S. U. has won tho championships in basketball, basket-ball, baseball and track for the past two years and by winning their third successive basketball pennant, have started on tho wav to another successful success-ful season in all branches of athletics. |
