Show SAY GREY MAY BE WANTEDJ BUTTE Supposed Whisky Found in Prisoner's Pocket Is Nitroglycerin. According to Joseph C. Sharp, chief of detectives, Prank Grey, arrested in company with George Grames at First South and West Temple streets, Friday, by Patrolman J. P. Kelly, is believed to be Clyde Estabrook, wanted in Butte, Mont., for robbery, and in Seattle for jail breaking. Estabrook is said to have been serving a sentence for burglary at the time of his escape from prison in the coast city. The photograph of Estabrook in the rogues' gallery closely answers the description of Grey. Further evidence that Grey and Grames are questionable characters was furnished yesterday when the 1 ' whiskey whis-key " found on the former when he was arrested was discovered to bo nitroglycerin. nitro-glycerin. This is the second occasion during the week that a prisoner has been found to have nitro-glycerin iu his possession, the other instance being when "Billy" Campbell, alias J. L. Bush, was searahed following his being fatally shot in a gun fight with G. C. Wailis of the capitol night patrol and Patrolman John Allen Monday night. Both Grey and Grames are believed by the police to be burglars. When searched at the station they had cartridges cart-ridges and some fuse, the latter evidently evi-dently being intended for use in safe-blowing. safe-blowing. They also had some skeleton keys. Grey and Grames were questioned by Detective Sharp yesterday. When Grames appeared he was again searched and a pair of plierB was found in a hip pocket. How Grames became possessed of the pliers in jail is a mystery. J. Parley White,' chief of police,: gave orders that a strict investigation should be made to discover how the pliers were smuggled into the jail. Detective Sharp thought that the man might not have been thoroughly searched when arrested and suggested that in future all men arrested m connection con-nection with serious charges, should be stripped to the hide, so that all danger of taking jail-breaking implements to the cells should be eliminated. The suggestion will be adopted, according to Chief White. |
