Show SCHOOL BOYS BACK FROM CANYON TRIP Y. M. C. A. Summer Students Have Jolly Time in Outing and Return in Highest of Spirits. Yesterday afternoon about twenty boys returned from the Y. M. C. A. summer school camp up Mill Creek canyon. The vacation started last Wednesday, when the boys left the office of the association at lo o'clock in the morning. Homer L. Hoislngton was in charge. The site of the camp was two miles up Mill Creek canyon, on Taylor's flat. The tents were erected on the eastern side and were six in number. The flat was utilized as a playground. On the first day general straightening out of the tents and other articles was done. A large flagpole of pine was secured se-cured and erected in a central position to the tents. Indoor baseball was the principal game indulged in and resulted In the picking of two teams. One was captained by Ike Eynon and the other by Paul Caffey. The former team took the first two games, while Caffey's charges were only able to capture the last battle.1 However, the last was the far more important, as a cookey was given to each member of the winning team. Following breakfast, the general thing was a game. On Sunday a hike of several sev-eral miles was taken up Oreen canyon. After ascending to within a few hundred feet of the top,, the climb had to be stopped, as the underbrush was too thick to be penetrated. Fishing wis also another one of the favorite sports, although swimming could not be had. A water fight on Tuesday was a good cleanser and everyone emerged a little cleaner. . The closing event of every day was a huge campfire, around which stories and experiences were told. Marshmallows and peanuts were eaten around the Are and this was easily the favorite time of the entire day. On Tuesday a peanut hunt was held, which kept the boys busy for a time. Yesterday morning the tents and blankets were packed and the downward journey was made afoot during the morning. |
