Mr. Dibblee himself is an ardent prv supporter. 11 The San pete Republicans, " commented com-mented Mr. Dibblee, ''seem very much in earnest ahout nominating Mr. Anderson. Ander-son. I told them I did not think there was a chance for his nomination, but they insisted they would try to put him over, anyway. ' ' Outside of the boom for Anderson, T found many Republicans favorable to the renoniimUiou of Governor Spry, i think, too, that Governor Spry would be tho likely second choice of many who are working for Anderson. ' ' Governor Spry 's recent retort to Senator Smoot on the subject of the Republican part v and its platform and pledged, in which the governor made it clear that' lie had always upheld the party 's platform, while some of his critics were violating it, has cleared up a misunderstanding many Republicans had about Governor Spry 's attitude on the prohibition question and has stimulated stim-ulated a sentiment in his favor. Many people, listening to those unfriendly to ; Governor Spry, had been deceived as to his acts. Now many of those same peo-i peo-i pie realize that Governor Spry adhered i to the very letter and spirit of the Republican Re-publican party 'a policy and that he stood out for the very thing which the fathers of the Wootton bUl professed to stand for before t he election submitting submit-ting the prohibition question to the people. peo-ple. The advocates of the Wootton bill switched when the legislature met, but Governor Sprv stood fast. The advocates advo-cates of the Vootton bill knew that it was not a good bill and that it was not right to violate the pledge to submit the question to tho people, but they wanted to put Governor Spry in a hole." |
