Show BOY SCOUTS SIGNAL FffiMi PI Observe Sixty-ninth Anniversary Anni-versary of Naming of Historic His-toric Mountain Pile. Tho sixty. ninth anniversary of the naming of Knsign peak was observed by the boy scouts of Ensign stake last night with an elaborate programme carried out on the peak. The celebration celebra-tion was under the direction of John D. Giles, superintendent of the Y. M. M. I. A. of Ensign stake. .Nephi V. Key-nolds, Key-nolds, stake scoutmaster was in charge of the programme. Three troops of boy scouts of tho V. M. M. I. A., sixty-two in number, and eighteen visitors participated in the exercises. ex-ercises. The programme opened with the raising of the flag shortly before sunset and was followed by the scouts' salute to the flag. Tho flag was lowered low-ered lust as the sun sank behind the western mountains. At 8 o 'clock a programme of speeches was carried out. Brigham II. Roberts made the principal talk of the evening on the early history of the pioneers and the history of Ensign peak. He was followed by Dr. John H. Taylor, scout commissioner of the Y. M. M. I. A. boy scouts. Ruth llay Fox, the first woman to address an assembly on Ensign En-sign peak, told the boys of her experiences exper-iences as a pioneer girl and John D. Giles gave a short talk on behalf of the scouts of Ensign stake. A mammoth signal fire was built bv the scouts on the peak at 8:30 o'clock which the boy scouts of Draper answered an-swered with a fire from tho Point of the Mountain, thirty miles away. At the close of the exercises B. II. Roberts introduced a resolution, which was unanimously unan-imously adopted, providing for an annual an-nual celebration of the boy scouts of all the stakes to be held on the peak Jul' 26 in commemoration of the naming nam-ing of Ensign peak. The majority of the scouts remained on the peak overnight and will carry out the flag raising ceremony and the salute to the flag at sunrise this morning. morn-ing. Afterward they will indulge, in scout games on the fiat below the peak and at 7:30 they will disband. |
