Show BLISS INSPECTS a paso hps ' OP GIUHDSMEN Finds the Spirit of the State Troops Excellent; Urges Liberal Construction of Releasing Order. EL PASO, Tcxjih, July 20. Inspection of the camps of tlif: 12.3,000 national guardsmen on station here was begun today by Major General Taskcr H. Bliss, for the purpose of ascertaining the conditions con-ditions under which the men are living. liv-ing. Ho paid particular attention to reports that some of the guardsmen are disgruntled with border duty and urged ; the organization commanders to place; as liberal construction on the recent orders releasing guardsmen, who have dependent relatives, as the military exigencies ex-igencies permit. "The spirit of these national guardsmen guards-men all along the border is excellent," he asserted. "While it is hot and dusty sometimes, exaggerated reports have been spread concerning their privations, which in reality are negligible." General Bliss added that the, number of guardsmen who could be serlt home, un-1 un-1 der the order, would still leave an ample : number of men under arms in the United : States to cope with any possible emer-i'gency. emer-i'gency. General Bliss will leave here tomorrow or the following day to inspect the militia caraos at Columbus, N. M., Douglas, anil Nogales, Ariz., and else-i else-i where west along the border. |
