Show BAND IS WITHDRAWN FROM BIG PARADE Governor Spry Asks That No Affront Be Offered to Union Labor. Special to The Tribune OGDEN, July 13. Unless E, W. Nichols is reinstated in the musicians' union at a meeting of that organization next Sunday, the State Industrial school band will not take part in the Pioneer day celebration here July 24, it was decided de-cided tonight at a meeting of the general gen-eral celebration committees. It was made plain by members of the parade and music committees that, under existing ex-isting circumstances, the parade would be declared unfair by union labor if the state school band, under the leadership of Mr. Nichols, should be allowed to participate. The action tonight was largely due to the announcement of John Watson that Governor Spry had asked that the school band not take part if such action ac-tion was an affront to union labor. The same request was made by John Walsh, vice president of the board of directors of the school. In addition to the Ogden bands, the bands of Brigham City, North Ogden and Liberty will be employed em-ployed for the celebration. |
