Show WEST COAST LUMBER DEALERS TESTIFY I CHICAGO, July 13. West coast lumber lum-ber dealers testified at today's session here of the interstate commerce commission com-mission inquiry into lists and tariffs maintained by railroads for transportation transporta-tion of lumber and its products.- A. Larrson of San Francisco, representing the Pacific coast's interest generally, and as traffic manager of the Kedwoo'd Lumber Manufacturers' association, and A. W. Cooper, secretary of the West Pine Manufacturers' association of Rpo-Mvane, Rpo-Mvane, were the principal witnesses. Mr. Larrson said that it was a matter mat-ter of indifference to carriers whether they hauled a car of rough or dressed lumber as there was no difference in risk or in carloading. He could see no reason why a different tariff should be charged for dressed lumber than for rough. T71 -i Ti 1 J p -i-,, ,i . i i . v.i. lyumt iummi oi rornana, ure., testified that 3,000.000,01)0 feet of lumber lum-ber are produced annually by the members mem-bers of tho West Coast Lumbermen's association and that the percentage of population engaged in the lumber industry in-dustry in Washington was 03 per cent; Oregon, 53 per cent; Idaho, 2fi per cent. He said their aggregate salaries ; were $5,221,000 annually. The interstate commerce commission is endeavoring to determine an equitable equit-able basis for lumber rates based on its findings as to the distribution and consuming con-suming centers and grades of lumber to be transported. |
