Excellent progress is being made at tho Alta Tunnel & Transportation company's com-pany's property, located at tho head of Silver Fork in the Big Cottonwood district, dis-trict, preparatory to installing the air line with which to ventilate the long tunnel. It is now in .beyond the 2000-foot 2000-foot point and due to the gases generated gen-erated by the blasting operations the company has been unable to employ more than one shift. As soon as the air line is installed it will be possible to employ three shifts with machine drills and the work of driving the big bore ahead will be rushed with all possible pos-sible speed. The management is desirous de-sirous of reaching the Clements ground, recently acquired, before the end of the summer season. There has been installed at the portal of the tunnel a large suction fan that will draw the gases from the breast. The work of cutting the water ditch is being done rapidly, the miners proceeding pro-ceeding at the rate of thirty-five feet per day. The portal of the tunnel is delivering a heavy flow of water, and recently tho drilling operations in the breast "have shown more water, indicating indi-cating that another fissure is being approached. ap-proached. The length of the tunnel when com-leted com-leted will be 4000 feet, and according to the management it will be lower than any other tunnel in the Little Cottonwood Cotton-wood district when completed. Driven almost due south it will tap all of the ore-bearing fissures in the Little Cottonwood Cot-tonwood district at depths ranging from 1000 feet to 1350 feet, at which depth it will cut the Prince of Wales fissure. It will not only prospect and develop the ore bodies in its own territory, but will allow a large number of other properties in the Little Cottonwood district dis-trict to explore their holdings from much deeper levels. According to the local officials the completion of the tunnel tun-nel will allow $10 ores to be shipped at a profit from the district. |
