Show PRISON LOOMS UP. Former Mayor Dorm Roberts and his H oosier friends who now occupy quarters quar-ters in the federal penitentiary at Leavenworth, Leav-enworth, Kan., may have the pleasure of sharing their pleasant accommodations accommoda-tions with a bevy of more or less distinguished dis-tinguished citizens of Texas whose zeal outran their discretion during an election elec-tion campaign. The usual appeals have been taken in the Corpus Christi cases, but as only points of law are involved, the facts brought out at the trial stand against the defendants. While they may escape upon technicalities, the chances are all the other way, for there has been a decided change in sentiment regarding regard-ing election frauds in the last few years. Another fact that militates against the defendants is that the federal government govern-ment is prosecuting the cases. United States judges have life positions and are less inclined to be merciful than the state jurists in such matters, the latter being compelled to seek votes at regular stated intervals. So it ie quite likely the Lone Star state will be represented at Leavenworth some time in the near future. Tt is to be hoped the good work will go on all over the country, coun-try, for the Indiana and Texas election frauds are not isolated cases, by any means, the corruption of whole counties j in Ohio and Kentucky having been freely free-ly admitted by bribe takers. It is perhaps per-haps too much to hope, however, that political corruption will ever meet its just deserts in either New York or Philadelphia. |
