In Champagne the battle continues con-tinues without cease. Our troops are at present on a front taken before be-fore tha second position of the Germn defense, marked by Hill No. 185, to the west of ihe Navar- riu farm, the Souain hillook, the tree of Hill No. 19." and the village and hillock of Tahure. The number of cannon captured from tho enemy has not yet boon computed, but exceeds seventy field gins and heavy pieces, of which twenty-throe were captured by the British army. The Germans undertook todav in the Argonne an offensive movement, which was stopped. On four occasions oc-casions they attempted an infantry assault on our positions at Ia Fille Morte, after having violently bombarded bom-barded them with projectiles of heavy caliber and suffocating shells. The enemy was able to retake only a few points of our trenches along tbe whole of the first line. Ho was stopped there by the fire from our supporting trenches and has been repulsed everywhere with very heavy losses. There is nothing of importance to report on the rest of the front. |
