Show SPECIAL SERVICES mm WEEK Impressive Ceremonies Will Be Conducted in Catholic Cathedral. Thursday, Pridaj', Saturday aud Sim-day Sim-day arc among tho most important days of the year in the Christian world, and particularly with the Catholic churches. Special services will commemorate the notablo events in tho closing days of the life of Christ. Today is known as Holy Thursday. At S o'clock this morning pontillcal high mass will bo celcbnited in St. M nry's cathedral by the Kight Rev. I Lawrence Scanlan, bishop of the Catholic Cath-olic diocese of Salt Lake. After the mass there will bo the annual ceremony cere-mony of blessing the holy oils, whieh are used during tho year in anointing anoint-ing tho dying. Promoters of the League of the Sacred Heart will arrange ar-range for adoration services which will continue throughout tho day. Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion, cru-cifixion, will be the occasion of memorial memo-rial services in tho cathedral. The mass of the presanctified will be celebrated cele-brated at 8 o'clock. Tho adoration of I the cross ceremony will continue after tho mass throughout, tho day. Stations Sta-tions of tho cross will be read at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. In the evening even-ing at 7 o'clock the office of the Tene-brao Tene-brao will be sung, followed by a sermon ser-mon on tho Passion and concluding with the recital of tho stations of the cross. Tho services on Saturday morning will liegiu at 7 o'clock. It is on Holy Saturday that the .Easter water is blessed, and also the paschal candle, tho triple candle and tho baptismal fount. These services will bo followed by solemn high mass. Easter Sunday morning solemn pontifical pon-tifical high mass will be celebrated at II o'clock by the Right. Rev. Lawreuco Scanlan, assisted by all tho clergy of tho cathedral, after which tho bishop will pronounce the papal blessing. Members of the cathedral choir, under un-der the direction of Miss Nora Glca-son, Glca-son, director and organist, have been working on tho musical programme for Easter for some weeks. Aii elaborato musical programme will bo rendered at tho high mass and there will also bo especially attraclivo music at the other masses. |
