Villa Will Decide. "While Gulterrez and Nntera arc said to have men enough to harass both Zacn-tccas Zacn-tccas and San Luis Potosl. both important cities which obstruct the path to Mexico City, It Is considered doubtful whether Villa will sanction a decisive engagement at either city until he Is nssurcd of success. suc-cess. General Villa today took over the four principal banks of Torreon, according to a report which he telegraphed to this city today, with the request that it be given to the press of the United Stales. Ills prize does not Include monoy or negotiable securities, however, as the bankers took the precaution of shipping these out when Velasco evacuated the city. He has tho buildings and furniture, however. The banks affected are the Banco Naclonnl. tho Banco de Laguna. the German and South American bank, and the Bank of London and Mexico. Villa's explanation is this: "When on October IS. 1913, he took Torreon Tor-reon the first time, friends of the constitutionalist consti-tutionalist cause contributed 2.000.000 pesos. Twenty-five per cent of this Villa savs he used to buy drafts on London. Paris and Uerlin for tho purpose of strengthening his credit. When ho abandoned aban-doned the city for tho campaign up north, a federal garrison moved In. and In January Jan-uary of this year, when ho attempted to draw on his drafts, he. found that the banks had Btopped payment. He therefore there-fore accuses them of having robbed him and Is taking such retaliatory measures as are available. Armed Mexicans Cross Line. AUSTIN", Tex., April S. Armed Mexican Mexi-can soldiers. In numbers estimated at nearly eighty, crossed Into tho United States early Tuesday and paid a dashing, dash-ing, but peaceful visit to tho little Mexican Mexi-can settlement of Madcro, Tex., on the Itlo Grande. This was tho substance of n report from Mission, Tox., to Governor Colquitt tonight by D. W. Glasscock, mate legislator, legis-lator, who went to Madero to Investigate Investi-gate reports that armed Mexicans had "shot up" tho town. Reports of tha incident were conflicting, conflict-ing, but lr. Glasscock said he did not believe any shooting had been done. Tho Mexican visitors were reported to hav spent most of their time in n saloon. Mr. Glasscock did not say to what faction fac-tion the soldiers belonged. Ranger to Investigate. BitOWNSVILLE. Tex.. April S Captain Cap-tain John R. Hughes of the Texas Ranger. Ran-ger. left Brownsville today to investigate the reported shooting up by .Mexicans of the village of Madcro. Tex., near the border. A report reaching the United States customhouse horo asserted thirty to fortv Mexicans crossed the river and "shot up" the town yesterday. No one was Injured. In-jured. Private- accounts of the affair said the residents of Madero were so frightened they did not daro call for help until tho Mexicans had finished their carousal and crot-sed the border. General Pablo Gonzales and staff left Mutamoros today by train, presumably to direct the proposed constitutionalist attack at-tack on Monterey. It was said beforo any attempt la mado to take tho city a force of federals must be driven from Cadcrcyta, southeast of Monterey. Sails for Mexico. SOUTILVMPTON. April S. Sir Lionel Cardcn.
