Glazier on a complaint charging him with giving a drink of whlskv to Alvln Thur-good Thur-good cn April 5. tho said giving "not being be-ing a gift In case of Injury to anyone, nor In raao of emergency for medical purposes." The jury brought in a verdict of guilty with a recommendation to mercy, a fine of J75 and sixty days' Imprisonment in tho dly jail was tho penalty Imposed. The testimony of the prosecuting witness was that La whom had given him a drink from a bottle. This was denied by Law-horn. Law-horn. Thurgood testified that ho whs unconscious for several hours following the taking of the drink, and that he believed be-lieved the whisky wa3 "doped." An amusing feature- of tho caso was. the testimony of Lawhorn that the money with which ho had purchased the whisky had been given him by City Commissioner LoJtoy Dixon and Chief of Police W. F. Giles for the purchase of whisky from Illicit vendors. Thin was corroborated by Commissioner Dixon. |
