Show ATTORNEY ATTACKS ! NEW BILLBOARD LAW Measure Proposed Makes Stringent Regulation on Erection of Advertising Adver-tising Signs; Tax Imposed. Objections against the city billboard ordiimnco "wore laid before the city commission yesterday by Attorney Richard W. Young, representing tbc billboard interests, ft is probablo that some changes will be mado in the measure meas-ure by tho commission, though no action ac-tion was taken yesterday. The new ordinance forbids the placing plac-ing of billboards elosor than fifteen feet back from the proper' line. Also a tax of $J for every five lineal feet is imposed, and billboards, under the ordinauco, shall not exceed fifteen feot in height. Attorney Young argued that the ordinance or-dinance was discriminatory to the billboard bill-board interests, and is unwarranted as compared to requirements in other cities. The provision prohibiting the placing plac-ing of the sign boards within fifteen feot of the proporty line was attacked on tho ground that n sign board so placed in tho business district would bavo no value, as the flanking buildings build-ings would hide it from view. H. .T. Dininny, city attorney, auc-gostod auc-gostod to tho commission that the ordinance ordi-nance to bo left as it stands so far as pertains to tho residential districts, but that billboards be allowed on the property prop-erty line in the business district. The billboard interests are willing to accept ac-cept such a provision, it is understood. |
