They will be received In two centers, the Bry-nnt Bry-nnt and the Jefferson, where they will remain re-main for the whole year nd where the courses will be so organized as to permit per-mit thorn to completo the eighth pratle and also to cover about one-half of the t llrst year's high school work. They will bo able,, therefore, to enter high p school In September next year with ad-r ad-r vance credit equal to about one semes-tor's semes-tor's work. The Bryant in Its contemplated organization organ-ization is intended primarily as a preparatory prepar-atory or intermediate school for students who Intend to enter high school, and In ,. all essential respects it will be similar to the east side high school -which (lid some preparatory work In this building several years ago. One modern language will be offered in the seventh grade and orie or two languages and some other elementary ele-mentary high school work In the eighth vcfir. dome of the more difficult and abstract ab-stract work of tho eighth grade will bo deferred until the llrst year of high HCllOOl A well equipped kitchen will provldo admirable facilities for the teaching or cooking and housekeeping to seventh and eighth grade girls, and a well equipped manual training shop will be available for boys. Tho teaching of modern languages will be under the Immediate charge or Edward DuPoncet (Ph. D., Heidelberg university), a linguist of some note. All other subjucts will be taught by teachers whose work In the city schools and clsc-iii clsc-iii whore has given them an enviable rank I in the studies tncy will teach. F. p. 1 Kceler. who has been tho head of the I Webster since It was opened, will be the I I new principal of tho Bryant. U is i I hoped that eighth B pupils living with n S five to seven blocks of tho Bryant will 1 voluntarily enroll there. I In view of the fact that from 6a to Sn I I per cent of all eighth grade graduates ,' af enter high school. It is believed .that the - demand for courses of this kind wilt be 'I i such as to make it advisable In the near I 1 fulure to establish preparatory schools 1 of this typo in several parts of the city. 1 ' So far as may be practicable the work I In the seventh and eighth grades of the 1 Jefferson will be similar to that In the I , Bryant. A well-equipped manual traln- I ing room Irf now in the Jefferson and the I i equipment for domestic science Is now bo- I ' ing Installed. Miss Lydla Palmer, who II, has spent several years aoroau, win n.c (. charge of the modern language work, and h expert teachers will give Instruction In h the other special subjects. W. J. Ponding Its com- mSk pleUon. however, it will be necessary to WmS work under condition not altogtnor fa- S vorable. The teachers and principal ac- Wml cept the situation cheerfully and will do I the best work that can be done in an overcrowded building, and tho patrons B& undoubtedly will bo patient and consider- HfF ate and extend to the tcaeners and prln- mWlt- clpal a sympathetic co-operation. Ilait- n dav sessions may be necessary even as 9 high as fifth or sixth grade. Lntll ml - MS year the seventh and eighth grade chll- HfSf clr.-n will be received In the Jefferson. m, Should any parent be willing to pay HI st root car transportation, ari-angements II can be made to send some n.an.(i I eighth grade pupils to Ihe hafayettc or I ? to other inside schools until the new I iniiuiinr. ic: constructed. IJL When the Jefferson was opened It was n relieved that, a sufllclonl number of pupl s would bo taken from the Grant to permit $f, the closing of one or two small rooms, f which do not meet all sanitary roqulrc- i nicnts. This hope, however, was not rca i - ; ft lzcd and the necessity for using the en- - ' tire building still continued. I he de- l shed end will be attained :ms year by transferring all eighth grade pupils from i the Grant school, giving two additional I rVhllo It Is hoped thai all eighth B pupils pu-pils In the Lincoln and Grant districts win BO to the Jefferson, a room ror those living liv-ing In the northern part of tnese two districts will bu opened Sn the 1-rcmoni, should a suillcicnl number apply "i.ere. Pupils in the eighth B class residing in the Riverside district will enter the Poplar Pop-lar Grove or tho Franklin. Owing to the largo prospective enrollment In the Sum-n.-r It will bo necessary in the nlercsts of the voungcr children to nsslgn the eighth B clnsa of this school to other buildings. They will be received In the Bryant and In the Jefferson, bone Oi those in the Hamilton will likewise i be expected ex-pected to attend the Bryant eighth grade to make more room for lower grades. Pupils that Iwc been regularly promoted pro-moted from tho eighth grade from any part of the cltv will be received at the high school. All certlncntcs of promotion promo-tion to high school Issued by other school svstems or Issued by private schools must be approved at the ofllco of ihc superintendent superin-tendent of schools before their holders i will be admitted to high school.
