Tho two new steam shovels recently received by tho Nevada Consolidated company have been put to work in the pit at Copper Flat, while ono of the older and smaller shovels shov-els has been transferred to tho new pit on the Liberty group about half a mllo west of Copper Flat where preliminary track laying, pipe lino "installation and other preparatory work has been carried on for some months past. At tho point where the shovel has been put at work, the overburden Is not deep and a short time will bo sufficient for the stripping of a considerable body of the sulphide ore similar in character to that at Copper Flat, but slightly higher In copper values. F. V. Reld, of New York, arrived In Ely this week from Sononi, Mexico, and will superintend tho erection of tho big smoke stack which will serve tho Olroux company's hoisting plant at tho new llvo-compartmcnt llvo-compartmcnt shaft. The stack will be of brick and will have a base of lG feet and a height of 150 feet. It will bo connected with eight 150-horee power boilers. Tho men who will erect tho steel gallows frame for the hoist arc expected to arrive ar-rive soon after the first of tho month. They will also erect the steel framework for tho buildings of the hoisting plant. The dome of the pumping station at the 1200-foot level of tho GIroux shaft Is being be-ing cemented. F. A. Strehlko has returned from Salt Lake where he made arrangements with tho U. S. smelter people to handle tho ore from the Strchlke lease on tho property prop-erty of the Ely Calumet Copper company. Tho lease Ik looking remarkably well and will unquestionably develop Into a large body of rich ore. The carload shipped this week ls expected to average at least 25 per cent In copper values. The Ely Resurrection company, which owns a largo block of ground to tho north and west of the holdings of the Ely Calumet, Calu-met, has decided to open IU property to the leasing system of development. Some very rich oro has been produced from the property of this company In years past Many good surface showings exist on the property which, by development, could probably be made to produco shipping oro. While sinking an experimental well on the property of the S'teptoc Vnllev Smelting Smelt-ing & Mining company at McGlll last week, a flow of water was encountered at a depth of only six feet from the surface sur-face which, under development, has grown to a stream of about -100 gallons per minute. min-ute.
