Show ITS DREADFUL ADMISSIONS. A boxed editorinl in the church organ or-gan last night, on its front page, was as follows, under tho head-line, "Tho Paramount Issue:" The organ of the so-called "Amcrcan" party, in its Issue of October 11. declared that thoro Irf no other Issue hero, this year, than the overthrow of tho Church. Hero arc some extracts from the vile editorial ot that date: The paramount Issue in Utah this year is the red emotion of this county from the elutohes of a treacherous, lawless, and treasonahle hierarchy. . . . But here In this country we havo a live, burning issue. I the question of individual freedom, of civic supremacy over ecclesiastical pretensions pre-tensions and dominance. Here we have to emancipate the pcoplo from a corrupt and vicious ecclesiastical thralldotn. The question comes rlyht home to every citizen, citi-zen, and Is the only live, real issue that It now before the American people in any locality of the country. Here we havo to fight anew the battle of liberty. Nowhere else in this country Is there an ecclesiastical ecclesias-tical hierarchy In control of politics, of civil affairs, and claiming Jurisdiction In the namo of God over the temporal affairs af-fairs of mankind. . . Wc have here a live, vital issue ot immediate and tremendous tremen-dous Importance to every voter. And on this issue the fight will bo maintained, and wc will fight until victory is obtained. ob-tained. Wo will obtain it in this county this year, anil gradually Americanism will spread to the various counties of the State until Utah Is redeemed from tho ecclesiastical ec-clesiastical clutches, from the dominance of tho selfish, lawless, adulterous, robbing rob-bing priesthood. And until that tlnal victory Is achieved, it Is idle to talk to the people peo-ple of Utah about somo wishy-washy National Na-tional Issues that arc no issues, at all. Now, right here tho Nows either convicts con-victs itsolf of transparent unconscionable unconscion-able lying, or else admits that the fight to deliver the count- from the clutches of "a treacherous, lawless, and treasonable treason-able hierarchy" is a fight against the church. The Tribune has not at any timo "declared "de-clared that there is uo other issue here, this year, than the overthrow of tho church." Tt has, on tho contrary, most earnestly and strongly declared against anything of. this kind. But the church organ says that to fight to dolivor tho county from the clutches of a treasonable hierarchy "is to fight tho church." It says that to batHo for individual freedom, civic supremacy over ecclesias-iicaL ecclesias-iicaL pretensions aud dominance, is to fight the church. It says that to fight anew tho battlo of liberty is to fight tho church. And it deliberately puts tho church on the wrong side of all the great questions ques-tions at issue here. Thero is not the slightest rcaso;i otherwise for its claim that wo have "declared that thero is no other issuo hero, this 'ear, than the overthrow of the church." . The readers of the church organ can sco by its own presentation of the case how it has put the church as tho synonym of treacheiy, lawlessness, and treason in its hierarchy; as opposing individual in-dividual freedom and tho supremacy of tho civil power over ecclesiastical prc-tonsious prc-tonsious and dominance. To emancipate the pcoplo from a corrupt and vicious ecclesiastical thralldoui; to light, anew the battlo of liberty, is to antagonize tho Mormon church. This, no doubt, is tho sincere opiniou of tho vicious organ of that church. But we rejoice to say, thousands of honest, fair-minded Mormons aro not of that opinion. And tho numbers of those in tho church who dissent from that degraded, vicious, and criminal view aro iucreasing b' tho thousands yearly, and prcsentl- they will increase by the- ten thousands, and will insist thai tho church leadership and position must bo so changed that no such awful admissions admis-sions can thoncefonvard be made in its behalf. |
