Show FISHERMEN BALK. Do Not Care to Race Unless There Is a Cash Prize to Win. Trlbuno Special Sporting Service. BOSTON, July 20. Fishermen here do not soom to be enthusiastic over the prospect of tho coming race for the Sir Thomas Lipton cup. When the Irish baronet was in America last winter ho offered a ?5000 cup for a race among the fishing craft of Massachusetts bay. Tho Intention of the committee- In charge Is to liave the race during Home week, which begins July 28. Tho fishermen aro not particularly anxious to sail In tho contest. They seem to think thnt whatever what-ever reward there may be to the race will go to the owner and that they, tho crow, will lose a day or two of fishing. The owners are willing to pocket the loss that, may Incur from knocking off for several days, but the men say unless thorn is some prlzo money to be won that, there will bo nothing doing. A cup is all right, say the men. but that will go to the owner, while they will receive nothing for their work. |
