Show Night Schools Are Favored by Board Move to Havo Ono Established at Fremont School After Plan of Rev. E. I. Goshon's Class. Almost enthusiastic was tho report offered by tho special commlttoo of tho Board of Education last night on tho establishment of night schools in tho city. Mathonlhah Thomas, W. M. Edwards and Byron Cummlngs wcro chosen as a special spe-cial commltteo to lnvestlgato this matter. Thoy visited tho night school conducted by tho Rov. Elmer I. Goshen. In their roport Inst night they said that a vast amount of good was bolng dono In the city by tho night school. Thoy thought great benefit would be dono by tho establishment estab-lishment of such a school under tho public pub-lic school system by tho board. They further recommended that ono bo Installed In-stalled at the Fremont school at once, and that $100 bo appropriated for the equipment. Air. Thomas moved tho adoption of tho report, M. J. Checsmnn was the objector. ob-jector. Ho thought it would be illegal for the board to establish a night school. In future pupils who go to matinees, dancing classes or drawing clnsses will lnfrlngo a school law If thoy do so -during school hours. A rulo was passed last night making It unlawful for pupils to attend any classes out of the school cor-rlculum cor-rlculum In school hours. Also pupils must cover their school books. This rulo Is to bo rigidly enforced. Clerk Li. P Judd was authorized to ad-vertlso ad-vertlso for bids for school supplies for tho next school year, 1905-C. Supervisor of Music Wotzoll was Instructed In-structed to get up a cantata to be presented pre-sented at tho end of tho present school year It will be a kind of Joint commencement commence-ment performance. If tho Tabernacle can be hired for ?100 tho cantata will be given thero. Tho following teachors aro to be employed: em-ployed: Miss Edna Davis, at a salary of $55 a month; Miss Josephine Sorcnson, at a salary of JC0, and Mrs. F. D Blck-ford Blck-ford will be employed for full tlmo at the East Sldo high school at a salary of $70 a month. An extra Is to bo employed In the commercial department of the West Sldo hljrh school. Tho following teachora get their salaries raised. Miss Fannie Galbralth, from $67 GO to $70 a month; Miss Margaret McVlchlo, from JG5 to $70, and Miss M. Iono Carroll, from $60 to $G5. It was decided to pay $200 to the trustees cf school district 32 in tho county. This will reimburse tho trustees for the pupils who should attend the Union school, but aro unablo to do so on accbunt of the bad roads. The treasurer Is authorized to pay tho Stato Land Board six months' Inte5r-est Inte5r-est at G por cent on tho $50,000 owing to the Land Board. Tho sum of $573.35 was appropriated to pay bills. The board decided to buy a piano for tho assembly-room at the Lafayette school building at a cost of $375. |
