Show THE HANDWRITING ON THE WALL 1 Belshazzar tho king made a great feast to many of his prlncos, dukes and favorites and some of their wives, and made merry before tho rich courtiers. 2 And Belshazzar, whiles he fpaatod, commanded to bring vessels which woro. consecrated; that the king and his princes and favorites and some of their wives might drink therein. 3 Then' they brought the golden vessels ves-sels from tho tomplo of tho house of God; and tho king, and his princes and lords and Bomo of their wives drnnk milk from them. 4 And they praised the tlthos of gold and of silver, of brass and qf paper with tho king's holy mark of 5 upon, them. G In tho same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against tho candlestick upon tho plals-ter plals-ter of the wall of tho klng'B palace; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. 6 Then the king's countenanco was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so tnat the Joints of his loins were loosed, and .his knees smote one against another. 7 The king crlod aloud to bring in tho historians and tho patriarchs. And the king spake, and said to tho wise men of Zlon, Whosoever shall rend thlB writing, and nhow mo the interpretation interpreta-tion thereof, shall be clothod In scarlet and have a chain of gold about his neck and he shall bo the next ruler In the kingdom, 8 Then came In nil the king's wise men: but they could not read the writing, writ-ing, nor make known to tho king the interpretation thereof. 9 Then was King Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lorcls were astonished. as-tonished. 10 Now ono of Belshazzar's queens, by reason of the words of tho king and his lords, came Into the banquet house; and the queen spake and said,1 O king, live for ever; let not thy thoughts troublo thee, nor let thy countenance be changed: 11 There Is a man in thy kingdom in whom Is the spirit of the holy ghost liko that which went with tho wise men In thy father's day and in thine uncle's day; and he is a humble man and a reader of revelations and a follower fol-lower of the truth as It was taught In the former day; and he is not like unto them who serve the kingdom for love of tithes, nor like unto them who flee from the kingdom in fear of thy ven-. geance. 12 Lo this man doth remain with thy kingdom and doth read the law and the testimony, and he doth love the kingdom albeit he doth cry out mightily against the practices of tho king and the princes and their wives; and because be-cause ho doth hold tho power to read and know tho truth, i' do beseech the king td call this man who is named Daniel to the king's presence. 33 And the king called Daniel and said unto Daniel, the wise men (and all .the sycophants are among the wise men) have been brought before me to Interpret this writing which the hand did make upon the plaister of the king's palace; and all of tho sycophants, which also are the wise rn.cn, cry out, O king, live forever; arid they flatter the ear with vain and foolish speeches which once I loved but which in this nightmare do appall me. 14 Now If thou canst read the. writing writ-ing and mako known the interpretation thereof, thou shalt have a chain of gold and be the next ruler of the kingdom, 15- rThen Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, thy-self, and give thy rcwardB to another; yet I will read the writing unto tho king, and make known to him tho Interpretation In-terpretation 1C O thou king, the most high God gave thine uncle a kingdom to rule over; and he had majesty and honour and glory. 17 But when his heart was lifted up and his mind was hardened In pride, ho was cast down from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him and he was cut off from this life. IS And hl3 people' were driven from the son3 of men; and they were doomed liko tho beasts to tho wilderness; and they fed on grass like tho oxsn; and ,they being without shelter were wet with the dews of Heaven; and they knew that the Most High God ruled In the kingdom of men and he would cast down and ho would exalt whom he would. 10 And one king followed another, and there was warfare with men, and then peace came to tho kingdom under the reign of the gentlo Wllford; and this peace was promised to stand with the people and the kingdom so long as the kingdom would govern the people in rlghteousneps. 20 And then came Loren7o and wars arose against other nations; and thou Belshazzar who wast heir to fhe throne did Incite. hese wars and provoke theso contentions. 21 And thou Belshazzar didst know the sufferings of the. past, and the pledge of peace in the name of the Most High God; nevertheless thou didst not humble: . 22 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thine other wives, have drunk milk In them; and thou hast ' i praiDed the tithes of Bllver and of gold and of paper, with tho king's holy sign of ? upon them; and tho God In whose hand thy breath Is, thou hast disdained. dis-dained. 23 Then was the part of tho hand sent from him; and this writing was written. ; 2i And this Is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TIOKEL. UPIIARSIN. 25 This, is, the interpretation of 'the thing: MENE; G.od hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished It. 23 TEK1DL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting. 27 PERES; Thy kingdom Is divided, and given lo tho Jews and tho Gentiles. Gen-tiles. 28 And 3uch were tho words of Daniel Dan-iel the prophet; and It became as ho did foretell, for the king Belshazzar, who had broken the promise, did lose the Idngdom. 29 It was thrown down and given to another people. |
