Show OREGON STANDS BYJIICHELL Me ot Confidence in the Senate. Legislature Passes a Resolution Reso-lution to This , Effect. Date of Sine Die Adjournment Is Fixed for the 17th Inst, SALEM, Or., Feb. 7. In a rather ingeniously in-geniously contrived resolution, tho Stato Senate, with ono exception, today adopted t resolution carrying with It a vote of thanks to United States Senator John H. Mitchell, and an expression of confidence In him, at tho samo tlmo agreeing to .adjourn .ad-journ sine dlo not later than Friday night, Feb. 17. Whllo some ot the senators did not caro to express such strong approval of Senator Mitchell's courso as that voiced In tho resolution, they did not caro to go on record as favoring an adjourned session, It being the programme of a certain cer-tain faction, It Is alleged, to put through an adjourned Bcsslon for tho purppso of cloctlng a successor to United States Senator Mitchell, should he from nny cause relinquish or bo deprived of hj seat In the United Stntos Senato Was of Complex Nature. Many of tho senators wero of tho opinion opin-ion that the resolution shbuld havo been divided, one section providing for adjournment ad-journment nnd the other providing for tho endorsement of United Slates Sonator Mitchell, lut owing to the complex nature of the resolution and to tho fact that an adjourned session, as claimed by somo of the oenntors. would have been unjust to Oregon's senior senator, they woro obliged to voto for the resolution as it stood.
