The stories of him that aro here carried treat of him as fully Informed by his spies of everything that was going on, so that his blows wero swift and sure. He amassed great treasure, but not from tho poor, and he never mistreated a woman or held one for ransom. But ho was relentless re-lentless severity Itself ugalhst any who trifled with him or who spoke to his discourtesy dis-courtesy or disadvantage. Ho was a faithful, friend und a fierce enemy. He prided himself on his honor, and had the highest opinion of his Importance In the world. The series of adventures here narrated Is In the highest degree entertaining, enter-taining, and one reads fascinated to the close of tho book. It Is all wonderfully well put, and the style Is admirable. |
