Show MSier Loses Life to SaYcHer Child Both Aro Caught on a Bridge, Mother Is Killed, Child Loses I Leg. Special to Tho Tribune. IDAHO FALLS. Ida., Nov. 10. The morning passenger train coming south, when two miles north of Markot lake, struck a woman, Mrs. Pennington, and her daughter, aged 4 years. The mother was so severely Injured that she died on route here. Tho llttlo girl lost her loft leg near tho hip and was otherwise cut and bruised. Both Struck by Train. Mrs. Pennington was walking along tho track, coming to town, and was near a bridge as the train was approaching. Tho little clrl ran on tho bridge In an attempt at-tempt to cross It ohcad of tho engine. The mother, seeing tho child was In danger. dan-ger. In a heroic but futile endeavor to save the child, rushed on the bridge to its rescue, and both were struck and hurled from tho track. Placed in Baggage Car. The train was stopped and the wounded picked up, placed In tho baggage-car and made as comfortablo as nosslble. Drs. LaRuc and Bridges, the company surgeons sur-geons here, were ordered to meet the train on Its arrlvnl, which thoy did. The body of tho dead mother was removed re-moved and the Injuries of tho child dressed, and Dr. Bridges accompanied It to Pocatollo, whore Company Surgeon Wright amputated the Injured limb near the hip The sufferer stood tho operation opera-tion well and it Is thought sho will recover. re-cover. Husband Absent From Home. The husband of Mrs. Pennington Is in the Lost River country, but has been sent for. They havo relatives in the vicinity vi-cinity of Menan. |
