Show BEWARE OF MAPLE SYRUP. It Is Made in Chicago and Never Came From Tree. NEW YORK. Nov. ID Continuing his crusade against adulterated articles of food, Dr. H. W. Wiley, chief of the bureau bu-reau of chemistry of tho Department of Agriculture, has addressed the students at the college of the city of Now York. Ho declared that the adulteration of food and drugs had done more toward lowering lower-ing the moral life of this country than had tho excessive use of liquor. Among other examples of adulteration he atutcd that tho product of a widely advertised ad-vertised Vermont sugar bush was made In Chicago and that this Chicago plant turned out more eo-called maple sugar In ono month than Vermont could produce In a year. The bright grcon color of Imported peas, he said, was obtained bv the use of sulphate sul-phate of copper, which is very injurious to health. Dr. Wiley cited many similar cases and appealed to the students to use all their power with tho object of wiping out tho pructlce of adulteration. |
