Show TRANSFER OF GEN. PENROSE'S REMAINS According to arrangements which have Just been made, thc remains of tho lato Gen. William H. Penrose, who died in this city on the 29th of last August, are to be transferred to thc national cemetery at Arlington, near Washington. When tho interment was made in thc post cemetery at Fort Douglas it was understood thut It would be morely a temporary measure, It being thc desire- of the widow that tho remains should have their llnal resting place In tho beautiful city of the dead maintained by tho nation ln honor of Its military heroes. Gen. Penrose's record was most distinguished. Entering tho volunteer vol-unteer army with tho rank of a Lieutenant Lieuten-ant in thc regulars, he passed with honor through the Civil war, and retired from the volunteers with the rank of MaJor-General. MaJor-General. He subsequently took an active part In the Indian campaigns and served as commandant at Fort Douglas, retiring on age limit ln 1SS with the rank of Brigadier-General ln tho regular army. Tho War department is now attending to preliminary pre-liminary arrangements, with a view to making tho transfer not later than the beginning be-ginning of October. |
