Twelve tons of virgin gold were today reduced re-duced to a molten state at tho United States mint here. At the isame time the coinage department began be-gan tho work of converting the mass Into golden eagles. Tomorrow twelve more tons will be melted and within the next few days about 12,000.000 will be coined. Most of the gold came from New York In bullion The melting of twelve tons in one day is said to break all records for mint smelting
