| Show I eyeUng WILL BE f RfAUY ON FOURTH SALT PALACE CYCLE TRACK TO BE OPENED ON THAT DATE Gunn and Shannan to Boss the Trcak F E Schefski Appointed State HandicapperRacers at Work Notwithstanding the general impression impres-sion that it will be Impossible to complete I com-plete the Salt Palace track by July 4 President Nelden states that he intends in-tends to have it completed in time to hold a meet there on the Fouth Cap Angell has been giving the architect the beneiit of his knowledge of cycle I track construction and in company with one of Klettings assistants visited visit-ed the old Beck track to get pointers for the construction of the new board I I course There has been some speculation as to who would be the manager of the new track and it is possible that Gunn and Sharman two of the local professional riders may have charge of the race meets They will have time to arrange the details of the meets and being familiar fa-miliar with all the riders and various forms of races and possible attractions will be able to arrange interesting pro I grammes The Opal club will formally open Garfield Beach resort with a big excursion ex-cursion next Thursday afternoon The club will have special cars for the members of the club and guests which will leave from the Garfield Beach depot de-pot at 530 p m A big banquet and ball in the evening will be the principal features of the event The Social Wheel club will run to Greens farm on the Cottonwood road next Sunday leaving the club rooms at 10 a m sharp A conveyance will be on hand to carry luggage HS the run I will be in the nature of a bask t picnic pic-nic The Opal club will take a run tonight to-night meeting at the usual place F E Schefski has been appointed as state handicapper for the C A C C and will enter upon his duties at once Race meet promoters should send all entry bldnks to be handicapped direct to Mr Schefskl Salt Lake City John Lawson the terrible telephoned tele-phoned down from Ogden very excitedly excited-ly about 4 oclock yesterday afternoon He had missed the train at Logan and had ridden at breakneck speed to Ogden Og-den arrivingjust too late to catch the Salt Lake train He wanted his match race with the horse Rymac postponed until some future date There are now more racing men in training than at any time in years and the prospect of a big seasons racing which will result from the building of the new track has brought out a big field of new riders Sorenspn Lomax Woodruff the two Heagrens Anakin Nightingale Eddie Smith Judson and Frank D Smith are some of the new ones These men are all in steady training now and besides these all the well known riders are working out regularly reg-ularly Holger Jensen A W Calne jr John Ensign Lucas and Edmonds who did not compete last Sunday are all again in training and will compete in all races held on week days Sharman Emery Gunn and Brazier who are among the snw < liest profs are contin ci J r > > 9 IIIIIii I I ulng their steady work and the track is a lively place every afternoon and evening Sharman who was ill Decoration I day and who had not recovered for the races Sunday in time to show what he could do is rounding into shape and Tuesday afternoon rode an unpaced hour in practice going twenty miles and onequarter in that time Ensign Is riding splendidly and is anxious to show Samuelson his old foe from Provo that he is still able to show the latter a clean pair of heels all |
