| Show IJI AI STUDfNTS GRIMED NOTABLE COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES EX-ERCISES AT LOGAN Prominent People Attend Excellent Programme Rendered By Students and Graduates Details of Affair Special to Tho Herald Logan June 15The commencement exercises of the Brigham Young college col-lege were held this afternoon in the presence of a throng that jammed the spacious chapel to the door President Snow was unable to attend Visitors of note were Brigham Young Dr Karl G Maeser Moses Thatcher and Bishop W B Preston The stake presidency members the board of trustees trus-tees and many prominent citizens were on the stand As the opening selection there was rendered Kiplings Recessional by the college choir Dr Karl G Maeser of Provo delivered the address to the graduates He emphasized the necessity neces-sity of thoroughness in the work of students and called attention to features fea-tures of the college work which distinguish dis-tinguish the educational system of the Latterday Saints from that of the world in general A violin solo by Miss Phylli Thatcher followed Mrs R AV Sloan playing the accompaniment on the organ Miss Drusilla L Ingram then read the valedictory val-edictory address her theme being Universal Education She gave facts and figures showing the growth of education ed-ucation in all parts of America Europe Eu-rope and the Orient I was a well prepared paper A musical selection Forget Me Not from Elijah was next rendered by students of the musical music-al class I was beautifully sung and loudly applauded President Kerr then presented certificates cer-tificates to the graduating class which is composed of the following members Drusilla L Ingram of Brigham Mo real Weiner of Morgan Calvin W Richards jr of Fielding and Kate N Lufkin of Logan All were In the academic course Prof Mosiah Hal of the college faculty fac-ulty received a degree in general science President Kerr announced the regular regu-lar students of the college numbered 4S6 while others had taken special courses A lullaby rendered by the choir was the next selection on the rogramme An address by Bishop W B Preston followed He extended congratulations con-gratulations to the graduate and faculty fac-ulty and urged the former never to cease to b students and to learn t work and take pride in i however humble the occupation A sextette from Lucia was brilliantly rendered b y those who sang it in the musical recital last night A selection by the college choir and the pronouncing of benediction by Brigham Young closed the exercises The alumni banquet will be served at i oclock and will be followed by a big bal in the gymnasium On Monday next an institute of church school teachers will be held in the college There will be lectures I by Karl G Maeser J M Tanner and others |
