feature of the session was the statement of F A Drew general freight agent of the Missouri Mis-souri Kansas Texas railroad to the effect that negotiations are now in progress for the establishment of an immense line of steamers to run between be-tween Galveston and all foreign ports The statement was brought out under questioning by James Haggeman so licitor of the Katy road who contended so not be stated and it Is just possible that the old office will be remodeled and refurnished The location of the locton present pres-ent office is one of the best In the city but the office itself is for the dissolution of the southwestern south-western bureau Previous to this i meeting the executive board had decided de-cided to abolish the conference committee com-mittee on and after Sept I ad rates will be made to Pittsburg on account of the Young Peoples Christian Union The Oregon Short Line passenger department de-partment is busy answering questions relative to the outing excursion north June 24 and making arrangements for the excursion to Ogden Sunday and k the Garfield Beach opening June 22 Chief Engineer Berry of the Union Pacific does not regard the route through Cheyenne pass in Wyoming as practicable and the route has been practically abandoned The Laramie Boomerang states that the grade was over 200 feet to the mile Walter Anderson stenographer In Vice President Bancrofts office received re-ceived a telegram yesterday from his father who is auditor of disbursements In the Union Pacific office at Omaha conveying the sad Intelligence that the young mans mother had died Mr Anderson left last night for Omaha to attend the funeral Having just completed the erection of a fine new union depot for Salt Lake City a romancing contemporary has now turned its attention to the Cache valley branch of the Oregon Short Line and yesterday morning with a few strokes of the pen extended this branch through to Oxford The story that such an extension Is
