| Show WORK OF PEACE CONFERENCE Discussion Regarding Articles of the Geneva Convention The Hague June 15The Ted Cross subcommittee of the peace conference met today Professor Asser of the Dutch delegation presiding Professor Louis Renault of the French delegation delega-tion explained that certain modifications modifica-tions had been made in the report meet I I Ing the wishes expressed by his colleagues col-leagues at the last session I Captain Alfred T Mahan United I States navy declared his readiness to support proposals submitted in a spirit of conciliation though he considered I they presented a lacune in regard to the position of shipwrecked men picked 1 nj by vessels finding themselves accidentally I dentally on the scene of a naval engagement en-gagement The subcommittee however how-ever considered that article 9 covered I all eventualities Dr Moneto Itchiro of the Japanese delegation announced that he proposed to submit a motion modifying article 6 of the Geneva convention regarding the dispositon of sick and wounded prisoners pris-oners on the lines of the subcommittees subcommit-tees report which leaves such disposition disposi-tion for the victors to decide The report being adopted the president presi-dent pointed the advantage which would be gained If during the conference confer-ence a convention could be signed embodying em-bodying the important humanitarian articles comprised in the subcommittees subcommit-tees scheme On the motion of Baron de Bit the delegate of Norway and Sweden it was decided the president should present to the conference such a convention with the final article providing viding for the signature of protocols of adhesion thereto The committee will also recommend to the conference the revision of the Geneva convention of 1SC4 1SC4On On the motion of Admiral Sir John Fisher representative of Great Britain a vote of thanks was accorded the chairman whose efficient work made possible the application of the Geneva articles to naval war the first practical I result of the conference |
