| Show ON f A GOLD STAND RD 4 United States to Be Placed There By Next Congress NEW LAW WILL BE PASSED 4 SENATOR PAYNE TELLS OF PLANS OF REPUBLICANS 4 Says Senate Finance Committee Will Present a Measure That Will Be Satisfactory to the Friends of Sound Money In Both Houses Hanna Will Stay I Milwaukee Wis June 15 Nationa Republican Committeeman Henry C Payne of Wisconsin who returned today to-day from New York where he attended a conference of the senate financial committee makes a statement to the Milwaukee Journal that in his opinion a bill will be formulated at the coming congress that will place the United States upon a gold standard basis His statement follows I is my judgment after being in consultation with the senate finance I committee members at the meeting at the Fifth Avenue hotel New York that a plan for the revision of our monetary system that will be satisfactory not only to the senate but the house as well will finally be approved and that that plan will be formulated into a bill which will became a law That law will provide for placing I the United States upon a gold standard stand-ard I will be eminently satisfactory to the gold standard men and the friends of sound money Of course no formal action of the senate committee has been taken but from expressions of members I have I no hesitancy in saying that this monetary mone-tary reform legislation will be brought I about It Is I certainly legislation I that fsb lbe Is needed I do not believe there will I be a special session of congress unless there should be some developments in the Philippine situation that would require re-quire action at a date earlier than the regular session I do not believe there Is any truth In the published statements that Senator Sena-tor Hanna is going to retire from the chairmanship of the national Republican Republic-an committee 1 am quite sure that Mr Hanna will continue a chairman I had a talk with him and I believe I this is to be his intention |
