Show I IDEAH CAME AT LAST Ends the Sufferings of Richard P Bland PASSED AWAY YESTERDAY FELL INTO SLEEP FROM WHICH HE NEVER AWOKE t Surrounded at Bedside By Members of His Family and Intimate Friends Funeral Will Be Held Saturday and Colonel Bryan Will Be Invited to Deliver Oration 4 Lebanon Mo June 15 Richard Parks Bland congressman from the Eighth Missouri district passed peacefully fully away at exact 40 oclock this morning Tuesday night about 10 oclock he fell into a sleep from which I he never awoke The physicians used use every means in their power to arouse him but he never regained consciousness conscIous-ness in the slightest degree About 1 oclock this morning it could be seen that he was sinking rapidly and at 430 oclock he ceased to breathe + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + V + + + + + + I + + fi + + + 01 tl 9 I J + y < I h + + 1 + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + 2 + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + RICHAED PARKS BLAND + + ± + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + ± + + + + + + + + + + 4 + + + + + + Toward the end the action of his heart increased perceptibly and hopes Were expressed that he was awakening but it was a fruitless hope His son Theodore Ewing George and John his daughters Fannie and Virginia and Ir Bland were at his bedside when the end came His brother Judge J C Bland of S1 Louis Mrs St Thomas his brotherinlaw General E Y Mitchell and E Y Mitchell jr and his private secretary Orid Bell were also with him The funeral will b held Saturday afternoon at 4 oclock at the opera house and the body will be buried in I the Catholic cemetery The funeral I will b In charge of the sergeantat arm of the house of representatives and will be conducted by Masonic lodges Private Secretary Bell has notified the clerk of the house of Mr Elands death requesting him to an point a committee of members to attend at-tend the funeral Prominent friends of Mr Bland throughout the country have been notified of the funeral ben notfe funerl arrangements ar-rangements Mr Bland was a member of no church and the ministers of all denominations de-nominations will participate in the services I is planned to have Colonel William J Bryan deliver the funeral oration The body will lie In oraton wf le state at the opera house for twentyfour hours Already the citizens are draping their J houses in black Mr Blands illness began immediately I immedi-ately after his return from Washington Washing-ton early in March I started with an I attack of grip followed with a relapse Chronic catarrh of the stomach complicated com-plicated the disease Brain trouble came net and he died of cerebral congestion con-gestion For several days before his death he vas partially paralyzed His power of speech was gone and he was unable to communicate with any one A dispatch was received tonight from Colonel W J Bryan from Chicago stating that he would attend the funeral lr Bland ha received several dozen messages of condolence from admirers of her husband all l overtime over-time country The strain on 1r Blands nervous system has been very great and her friends are alarmed at its effect ef-fect fectMr Mr Bland leaves no life insurance and dies a comparatively poor man The funeral services will be conducted by the Masonic fraternity Colonel Bryan and l of the visiting congressmen congress-men are expected to pronounce brief eulogies on the character and public services of the deceased Richard Parks Bland was born near Hartford Ky August 19 1833 By working during the summers and attending at-tending school in the winters he finished fin-ished his academic education He then studied law moved west and in 1860 became treasurer of Carson county Nev In 1865 he went to Missouri and settled at Rolbx He was elected to congress a a Democrat in 1873 and has been regularly reelected In 1873 he became chairman of the committee lommltee on mines and mining Silver coinage I having ben discontinued In 1873 he introduced Into congress in ISIS the famous Bland bill which provided that the secretary of the treasury shall purchase sufficient bullion to coin the minimum amount of 2000000 a month in silver dollars of 412 grains each and that these dollars shall be legal tender He had since been a champion of the free coinage of sliver His name was prominently mentioned in connection connec-tion with thE presidential nomination at the last Democratic national convention |
