Show Daylight Time A Fuel Saver By SUSAN LOTH An Englishman named William Wil-liam Willet is credited with the plan to juggle the clocks. In a 1907 pamphlet called "The Waste of Daylight" he proposed prop-osed that clocks be advanced 80 minutes each summer. IT ALSO cut down the electric elec-tric light bill. In World War 1. Germany and England adopted daylightsaving systems sys-tems to increase production at war plants and to save fuel. The United States initiated a ' seven-month-a-year daylight saving plan in March 1918. Protests led by farmers brought about repeal of the law in 1919. Farmers said daylight saving threw their dairy cows off schedule. WERE DAYLIGHT-saving time observed in this country in March and April in addition to May through October just two more months we would reduce the demand for electricity elec-tricity in this country during those two months by the energy ener-gy equivalent of 100.0(10 barrels bar-rels of oil a day. If a state doesn't want daylight day-light saving it can vote itself exempt. Hawaii. Arizona, and the Eastern time zone counties of Indiana run on standard time year-round.
