Show Governor Names Dona Wayment To Senate Seat Of Her Husband SALT LAKE CITY Dona Wayment, Clinton, was appointed last week to fill the unexpired term of her late husband hus-band State Senator Sherman A. Wayment, who died of a heart attack while jogging June I. THE APPOINTMENT was made by Governor Scott Matheson from among three names recommended by the Davis County Republican Central Committee. Mrs. Wayment will fill the unexpired term of her husband until 1982. He was elected in 1978 to represent Senate District Dis-trict 21. OTHER NAMES submitted by the GOP Central Committee Commit-tee for consideration by the governor were Henry J. Dickamore, South Weber, who received 25 committee votes; and Kay Browning of Sunset who was top vote-getter vote-getter with 27 votes. Mrs. Wayment received 25 committee commit-tee ballots. Two others who sought nomination, Clearfield Mayor Donal Townley and Don E. Bush, also of Clearfield, received re-ceived 14 votes each. DISTRICT 21 serves the northwest portion of Davis County and extends into Weber We-ber County. The meeting was attended by Weber County Central Committee officers and district leaders. In making the appointment. Governor Matheson said, "Dona shares her husband's interest in politics and public issues and they often worked together as a team. I believe that Dona's past involvement in public issues makes her exceptionally ex-ceptionally well qualified to replace re-place her husband as representative represen-tative of Senate District 21. |
