Making the presentation is Nancy Giles, president of the Utah Girl Scout Council. Also, Sharla received a plaque, pla-que, with her name and number num-ber of boxes engraved, for this year's record-breaking achievement. Along with the plaque, she received a two week's trip to Cloud Rim Girl Scout Camp July 12-24, a Koala bear, a cookie "champ" baseball cap, and a beach towel. JUST BEFORE the sale began, be-gan, Sharla questioned her mother about the possibility of selling 1 ,000 boxes something some-thing that had never before been done in the Utah Council. So with her mother's help of driving her door-to-door throughout Syracuse, West Point and Clearfield, Sharla put in many hours to break the 1,000 boxes barrier which is going to be hard to beat. SHARLA IS one of eight children four girls and four boys in the Jones family and all eight have been or now are active in Girl and Boy Scout activities. "It's been a real good experience ex-perience and a lot of fun," said Sharla, who credits her sisters with "opening the doors" to cookie sales in the area. "I WASN'T turned down very many times and some families bought as many as 15 boxes." Girl Scout troops throughout through-out Utah sold and delivered 186 tons of cookies this year with the proceeds to be used for camping, special outings and community service projects. By GARY R. BLODGETT WEST POINT Salesmanship Salesman-ship appears to be a byword around the Thomas L. Jones residence in West Point. AND THE latest to achieve honors for salesmanship is Sharla, a Junior Girl Scout from Troop 391 who recently sold 1,288 boxes of scout cookies in only 12 days. That's an average of more than 100 boxes of cookies per day, and her accomplishment shattered the 1980 record for the most boxes of cookies sold in the entire state by some 488 boxes, according to Nancy L. Giles, president of the Utah Girl Scout Council. SHARLA IS the fourth of four girls in the Jones Family to sell cookies andeachseta new sales record in the process. pro-cess. It started with Karrie who was the state's top sales gal with about 350 boxes. This figure fi-gure was increased each year by Sharolyn and Ladena, the latter holding the state record of 750 until a couple of years ago. SHARLA STARTED out with over 500 boxes her first year and last year was credited with 750 boxes placing second to another gal who sold 800. But with this year's sales of 1 ,288 not counting 50 boxes which were not credited in the contest but were sold after deadline Sharla now holds the state record by a margin of 488 boxes. IT ALSO marks the third consecutive year that Sharla has sold more than 500 boxes, placing her in the "500 Cookie Club" and for this she received a nice trophy. |
