Show Citizen Group Gets Guidelines In Redevelopment By GARY R. BLODGETT BOUNTIFUL A resolution of guidelines guide-lines and recommendations for the Citizens' Committee of the Bountiful Redevelopment Rede-velopment Agency has been approved and presented to the Agency's board of directors. direc-tors. THE RESOLUTION suggests that the committee which is comprised of citizens from various walks of life act only as an advisory committee to the board of directors. direc-tors. The citizens committee's main purpose should be to give good, sound and constructive con-structive suggestions and recommendations recommenda-tions that would help the board in its decision deci-sion making. HOWEVER, the committee should also hear complaints from citizens regarding redevelopment re-development planning and should record all constructive suggestions regarding redevelopment. re-development. The resolution also urged residents to provide input into the committee regarding all aspects of planned redevelopment not being restrictive to commercial business districts but to also include high-density housing needs, office space, etc. AFTER RECEIVING input from citizens, the committee suggested that all input should be considered as to how it (input) will enhance or distract from the community. The resolution also asks several questions ques-tions to be considered concerning prospects pros-pects for a mini-mall, a high-rise housing project, high-density housing complex, and several other proposals. IN CONNECTION with the question about ab-out the need for a new and well-planned mini-mall in downtown Bountiful, the resolution re-solution asks some of the following questions: ques-tions: Travel distance Bountiful-area residents go to shop; should a high-density, high-rise housing project be included in the business district; should the redevelopment area for the next five years include only the area west of Main Street to 200 West and from 400 North to 500 South; and what other areas should be considered? IN DETERMINING the need for a mini-mall mini-mall in downtown Bountiful, the resolution also notes some of the following questions to be considered.: Is the central business district important : can traffic flow be maintained for safety and time efficiency; does the city provide adequate traffic access routes both from the interstate highway and from the community; com-munity; can a better mix of all types of business be maintained close to each other (as in a mall); what types of businesses are needed; what should the support of a mini-mall mini-mall be by local resident ; can historic structures struc-tures be preserved and included into a redevelopment rede-velopment area; and can Bountiful afford to bond for a $50 to $60 million redevelopment redevelop-ment project? |
