Show Bountiful Receives s1 50,000 Grant To Clean Streams By DAVE WIGHAM Bountiful City Mayor Morns Swapp informed the Davis County Council of Governments that this city had received $150,000 of a Title 10 Grant. TITLE 10 was passed last year by Congress under the Public Works and Economic Development Act. The main function of the act was to generate jobs for the unemployed. Mayor Swapp indicated to the group that the money received is only half of the grant. He explained that the balance would be received during the next fiscal year. LAST YEAR was the first year for the program and over 800 thousand dollars were disbursed throughout the state for meaningful public projects. This year a funding of $3 million was announced for allocation in Utah. A distribution formula was developed but because of a great deal of controversy over the formula Governor Ramp-ton Ramp-ton stepped in and indicated that all projects would be considered and forwarded to Washington. WHEN THE grants came back from Washington it was discovered that Utah was only allocated $5o0 thousand instead in-stead of the $3 million predicted. Of this money Bountiful and West Bountiful received $300,000 for a joint effort flood control. What this means to the two cities is that the creeks in the area will be checked and cleaned. The banks that have fallen down will be re-built, and some general repairs to the creeks and streams in the cities will take place. Also 33 unemployed people, mainly from Bountiful and West Bountiful will now be employed. |
